incident. what do you know, christian. >> reporter: we've been talking to a series of witnesses since 4:30 this morning. let's give you a look at this investigation. it appears this investigation is beginning to wind down. we've seen a number of police vehicles leaving the area. as you turn to the right, you might just be able to make out a traffic reconstructionist over here who is apparently taking some of the last measurements here for this -- what started out as a police pursuit and turned into an officer-involved shooting. we saw investigators tow away the car. witnesses tell us they heard that car come roaring into the parking lot with police close behind. >> i heard police right behind. then i heard shots fired. it sounded like over here. and then they got -- they apprehended somebody right

there. and then i guess the guy with the gun got away. >> reporter: we're still trying to verify that with police. one officer was taken away and needed medical attention. we're hearing that that officer may have been bitten in the leg by a dog. we do have video of the lexus coup on the back side of the apartment complex believed to be at the center of this police pursuit and later officer- involved shooting. there's no word on the condition of the driver of that vehicle. this is vehicle we shot about an hour ago with evidence technicians gathering what appear to be clothing at the scene. we've been trying to contact vallejo prince since shortly after the incident began but so far have not heard back to get their official narrative of exactly what happened. we want to hear more about the officer who fired the shots and more about the suspect who was injured. now we'd like to hear a little more about the suspect who may have escaped. again coming back to our live shot, you may be able to see behind me this incident now appearing to wind down. there are still some evidence markers on the other side of

that white pickup truck. again, we're still waiting to hear from valeo pd. we heard we should hear from them shortly after dawn. it's now daybreak. we're hoping to hear from vallejo pd shortly. we'll bring you more details as they're available to us. we now go to more developing news that we're following, this time in fremont. firefighters there mopping up hot spots from a house fire. we want to take you live to the scene. these are live pictures. no one was hurt but firefighters tell ktvu news that two homes were damaged in the fire. you're looking at the roof of one of them. crews put out flames just about an hour ago at 6:00. one home is still smoldering we're told. no word on what sparked that fire. coming up a little later at 7:30, we will have a live report from this scene in fremont that also includes cell phone video of the flames captured by a witness. in san jose police are investigating the death of a pedestrian at a busy

intersection. it happened around 10:00 last night at alum rock and jackson avenues. investigators say a driver struck and killed a 62-year-old man while he was crossing the street. that driver is cooperating with police and they say it appears that alcohol was not a factor in that accident. our time is now 7:03. former stafford university president richard lyman has died. he was 88 years old. he died of congestive heart failure yesterday in palo alto. he spent 25 years at stanford serving as president between 1970 and 1980. among many things, lyman was also known for cracking down on student protesters during the vietnam war. on this memorial day, president obama will honor fallen american troops at two big events. at 8:00 this morning, the president will lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknowns at arlington national cemetery. then later on, he'll be at a ceremony at the vietnam veterans memorial in washington, d.c. marking the

50th anniversary of the vietnam war. coming up for you at 7:15, we will go live to arlington national cemetery and bring you up to date on all of the memorial day events. >> of course memorial day also being marked right here in the bay area with one of the biggest events at san francisco's presidio. allie rasmus joins us with more. >> reporter: they are lining the stage here at the national cemetery in the presidio. there's at least 200 to 300 chairs in place for the hundreds of people expected to attend today's memorial day ceremonial. the memorial observance here at the presidio has been going on for 144 years. this is video from last year's event. an area band will lead a million taker procession from lincoln in share -- sheraton.

there will be a wreath laying cemetery, a salute and coast guard flyover. military and civilian dignitaries including san francisco mayor will speak this afternoon. the observance comes after a day after large crowds gathered here to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the golden gate bridge. [ fireworks ] >> reporter: the day long party ended with a spectacular fireworks display. earlier in the day, thousands of people came to the field in the presidio for music, dancing, lectures about the golden gate bridge and its history. but today again the focus shifts to a more salem event. this ceremony observance happening here at the national cemetery here in the presidio. there will be parking available near the main post of the presidio for today's events and organizers have also provided a free shuttle that will take people from the parking lot to

memorial day weekend for majorette toe fit work. so -- major retrofit work. so far the project is right on schedule. >> started with 19 so now the deck of the bridge can open up a total of 37 inches and contract and expand without failing there. >> those work crews have had to deal with some pretty powerful funds but fortunately it hasn't rained to delay the project and the bridge is zoo to reopen at 5:00 -- is due to reopen at 5:00 tomorrow morning. until then you do have two major alternate routes around the closure. you can either head north to the san mateo bridge or head south and get around the bay on highway 237. >> of course tracking it all for us this morning is our own sal castaneda. pretty light out there given it's a holiday. >> absolutely. right now it is pretty good out there. as a matter of fact, if you are driving let's say to san francisco, you're driving anywhere, i think you're going to really like what you see. westbound traffic on the bay bridge has been light all

morning long. and there is no road work out there because of the holiday. so we're in pretty good shape this morning. looking at the commute here on 101 northbound and, you know, some people still do have to go to work. for example, chp officers are working today looking for a bunch of things. just a word to the wise. the rest of san jose, looking at the computerized maps, looking pretty good if you're driving from free month to union city, the traffic moves well. we just talked about the dumbarton bridge being closed so you know about taft westbound 580 coming to livermore and caster valley, that looks good. let's go to steve. thank you very much. i just took a drink of water and it went down the wrong pipe. just be honest. low clouds and fog all around. not as preponderance as we had the past couple of mornings when it was juststnutty. it was just crazy considering we had cool air aloft. we had a huge fog bank. well, it's back. on the pollen count trees have come down. probably still too high for some of you but cedar, cypress,

warning is not just for the syrian government. he said every individual with a gun must lay down their weapons. nato now reporting three service members were killed today in afghanistan. two were killed in a helicopter crash in the east. one was killed by an insurgent attack in the south. that statement from nato doesn't give us any other details. we don't know the nationalities of the coalition members who were killed. on this memorial day just about 45 minutes from now, president obama will head to arlington national cemetery for the traditional memorial day ceremony and that's where our renee marsh is now live with a rundown of all the memorial day events taking place. >> reporter: good morning. we're right outside arlington national cemetery. we're expecting president obama will be laying a wreath at the tomb of the unknown.

this was this weekend. hundreds of thousands of motorcyclists rode from arlington to washington on sunday coming to the nation's capital annually in remembrance of prisoners of war and those missing in action. this year's focus was army sergeant bo berta lu t. on friday at a arlington national cemetery, american flags were placed at the more than 260,000 head stones to honor every service member laid to rest there. we take you now to a live shot of the two of the unknowns here at arlington national cemetery. again, we're expecting president obama as well as the first lady will be here after the president lays the wreath. we are expecting remarks from him. again that happening around the 11:00 hour eastern time. then let's also take a live shot there at the veterans memorial there, the vietnam veterans memorial. we expect that the president as

troops, let them know in real and practical ways that we honor them and we treasure what they have done for us. >> halfway through the event, people were asked to try to find shelter because those thunderstorms were moving in. then just minutes later, the concert was canceled all together. back here at home later tonight, there will be a memorial day vigil in lafayette at the display of crosses. they'll be honoring the men and women who lost their lives while serving in iraq. back in 2006, volunteers started placing these white crosses on the hillside for each service member killed in iraq. the last cross was hammered into the hillside memorial last summer. the vigil tonight begins at 7:00. the city of newport beach in southern california sending a bill to president obama's reelection campaign for $35,000. that's how much newport beach says it spent for extra police officers and overtime pay to cover a fund raising event by the president back in february. the president's fund-raiser was

held at a home in newport beach closing roads there and causing and leading to extra security in the neighborhood. the man brought in to head security at dodgers stadium after the beating of a fan is retiring. he will be replaced by a former deputy chief at the lapd. he took the job as dodgers senior director of security last april after bryan st tow -- stow was severely beaten in the parking lot. he said he had been planning for his retirement for quite some time. thursday will be the last day. time 7:19. u.s. stock markets closed today for the memorial day holiday which means lighter trading around the world. all of the major european markets up so far today after a new survey is showing most greeks want to remain with the euro currency. and most asian markets closed with modest gains on that report. china, australia and taiwan were all aloft about 1%. hong kong and japan also

finished up for the trading day. jpmorgan chase beefing up its operations in china. this morning the bank announced it would inject $394 million to expand its branch network. also increase corporate lending and recruit new employees. jpmorgan also has an investment banking joint venture with a chinese partner. new graduates can expect to see more rewards for their hard work as a new survey shows a number of people planning to buy graduation gifts is increasing. the retail federation says one- third of americans plan to give graduate gifts. gift cards are the most popular present. the survey says total spending on graduation presents will be nearly $5 billion nationwide. our time 7:20. again we're happy -- [indiscernible] we're looking outside. we have cloudy skies parts of the bay area. this is outside our window.

police are there looking at it so just give yourself a little bit of extra time in that area. also this morning, we're looking at the traffic at the bay bridge toll plaza. it has been nice and light. no major problems. getting into san francisco. as a matter of fact, it has been a very nice commute coming up toward the city. and if you are driving this morning in the south bay traffic -- and the south bay traffic does move well. let's go to steve. lots of low clouds around, a few breaks in the clouds. should burn off a little sooner. it's not the coverage we had sunday morning when it was really widespread but some of the low cloud deck still in place. looks to be a little shallower today. it's a sign high pressure is trying to build in. plenty of low clouds all up and down itself coast. a system coming into the north will enhance the westerly breeze, keep things going right along here. 40s and 50s on the temps. a big cooldown the top of your screen below the timeline moving out of the picture.

tab on ktvu.com gldz time 7:29. developing news. firefighters in free month busy mopping things up after an early morning house fire that damaged two houses. alex savage is at the scene with new cell phone video that witnesses gave you. >> reporter: yes, some heavy damage to these two homes here in fremont that caught fire early this morning. also one injury to one of the free month firefighters battling the flames. we'll show you here where it broke out. these are the two houses we're talking about here. the flames spread from one of the houses over to the other house. they both caught fire, both families, though, made it out okay. take a look at some cell phone video taken by a neighbor. [ sirens ] >> reporter: the fire broke out 5:30 this morning here on the 3700 block of duondaro way in free month. firefighters showed up quickly. they were able to knock the flames down in about a half- hour. both of the families inside,

four adults and six kids between the two houses, both of those families were able to make it out safely. as we come back out here live to a live picture of the roof here on this home, there was one injury to a firefighter who was working to create some ventilation holes in the roof. i want to bring you now battalion chief hill. tell me how this firefighter was injured this morning. >> we had a truck crew on the roof opening holes for ventilation. he had a chainsaw. he was cutting the roof and the roof collapsed. at which time he went up to his waist through the roof. his crew members pulled him out. his protective gear get him from being burned. he suffered minor injury to his hand. otherwise he's fine. still on scene, still working. >> reporter: he wasn't burned because you're talking about pretty hot conditions obviously in that attic. >> very hot conditions. flames were through the roof. so it was a little exciting to begin with but the crew pulled

him out. >> reporter: explain why you go up on to the roof and create those ventilation holes. >> we get the holes in the roof cut to get the hot gases out so the crews inside can put the fire out. without the holes, the fire -- the heated gases are kept in the house and makes it untenable for firefighters. >> reporter: that firefighter went partway through the roof. thank you very much. he went partway through the roof and suffered minor injuries but is up walking around here at the scene and doing okay this morning. one minor injury to the firefighter but no one else hurt as two houses catch fire here in free month this morning. the cause of this blaze still under investigation. we'll gather more information here and talk to neighbors and we'll be back with you later on in the morning. for now we're live in fremont, alex savage, kt vu channel 2 news. in overnight news two oakland police officers hurt when a suspected drunk driver slammed right into their patrol car. it happened around 1:00 a.m. at 5th and martin luther king

in oakland. two more police officers rushed to the scene. they arrested the suspect about a block away from this crash. the driver also suffered minor injuries. he is now facing dui charges after he gets out of the hospital. two sonomo county teenagers in jail this memorial day accused of a stabbing attack. it happened yesterday afternoon at a petaluma shopping center. police arrested the two teenage boys saying they stabbed another young boy outside of a k-mart store. we don't know the condition of that young victim. also in petaluma, police there say speed was a factor in a motorcycle crash where two men were killed. it happened yesterday afternoon around 2:30 on magnolia avenue there in petaluma. the chp says both victims were on the motorcycle when the driver lost control and crashed into a guardrail. the 36-year-old driver died at the scene. the 31-year-old passenger died from his injuries on his way to the hospital. both of those men were wearing

helmets. we're now hearing from the owner of a pittsburgh home -- pittsburg home when a car slammed into the house. four people were inside the house. the owner says it came out of nowhere and her first concern was the other people inside. >> oh, my god, somebody just hit my house. i didn't -- you know, the noise was so loud. the screeching was loud and the impact was very strong. >> she says everything fell off the walls in large pieces. the actual wall also fell down and at least three people inside that home were uninjured. so far -- were injured rather. so far no word on their condition. tomorrow the san francisco ethics commission meets for a critical hearing. the panel is set to announce its official recommendation in the ross mirkarimi case which will then go to the board of supervisors. the board will decide if the

suspended sheriff will get his job back. he faces misconduct charges stemming from a domestic violence incident with his wife. he was suspended without pay. the mayor is now trying to permanently remove him from office. the 75th birthday celebration of the golden gate bridge wasn't the only party in town. the colorful sights and sounds of carnival brought hundreds to the mission district -- carnaval celebration brought hundreds to the mission district. our time is now 7:35. there are reports this morning facebook plans to get into the smartphone business. several reports including facebook employees say the company has hired several smartphone engineers. "the new york times" is reporting some of those experts include people who worked on the iphone. rumors about a facebook smartphone started surfacing about two years ago. the reports say the phone could

make its debut sometime next year. a young entrepreneur somehow managed to live and work at a.o.l.'s palo alto offices for two months before he was caught. 20 qearmd eric simons was trying to get his start-up -- 20-year-old eric simons was trying to get his start-up off the ground. he was given $20 tow as part after tech program and was -- $20,000 as part of a tech program and when his money ran out, he decided to stay. he slept on couches, ate the company's free food and worked on the start-up before security finally kicked him out. soon after he was given $50,000 from a venture capitalist for his start-up company. the u.s.s. nimitz is docked at pier 30 and 32 in san francisco after sailing to the bay area for the big golden gate bridge's 75th anniversary. it passed right under the golden gate around noon yesterday as you see here in

these pictures escorted by a fire boat. almost 3,000 sailors are on board the ship which is based in everett, washington. it's carrying more than 1500 tons of military weaponry and is scheduled to leave the bay area on wednesday. a cross-country bike ride in honor of u.s. service members kicks off in san francisco this morning. the event is called the sea to shining sea ride. organizers say many wounded iraq and afghanistan war veterans are taking part in the 68-day, 3700-mile ride. riders will start gathering at crissy field. about 8:00 cyclists are expected to reach virginia beach on july 28. time 7:37 on this memorial day monday. there are some changes and closures that drivers should expect today. bart is running on its sunday schedule. that means service won't really begin until 8:00 this morning. and parking permits and fee requirements in the bart

station parking lots will not be enforced. trains for today's giants- diamond bags game will be running. game time is 2:05. san francisco's muni line still shut down this morning for rail repair. that work is also shortened the j church line to church and market streets. both of those lines should be open again on june 4. and first street in san francisco also closed between mission and howard streets. that's so the work can be done on the new trans bay transit center and the new temporary bridge that's built along first street to help you get around is set to reopen at 5:00 a.m. tomorrow. obviously they picked this because they know it's memorial day weekend, less traffic. seems like there's a lot of things closed including the dumbarton bridge. >> that's right. the dumbarton bridge is closed. people have been using the san mateo and 237 and getting around that just fine. so far anyway. it will open again tomorrow at 5:00 a.m.

high pressure. there's a west, southwest at fairfield, 20 miles per hour. southwest 10 vacaville, west of sfo. once the low clouds burn off, the breeze will pick up again. the temps have been stuck due to the cloud cover. mostly cloudy, a couple of breaks but mostly cloudy skies. there goes our powerhouse low ejecting out of the area but it left behind a lot of cool air and a lot of low clouds which is kind of unusual. temperatures aloft are cool. there's no heat in the valley yet we have a big fog bank in place. water temperatures very cold. so 50s, 60s and 70s. so just a little bit warmer today mainly inland. i don't think so much by the coast. with a breeze in the afternoon even though there's already a breeze in parts ever the dell ta. 50s, 60s, upper 60s or very low 70s. this time of the year you can't rebound pretty fast on those temps. today it held in check due to the cloud cover. giants home and it will go mostly cloudy, partly cloud -- mostly sunny, partly cloudy, upper 60s. thursday looks to be the warmest day of the week.

here comes another system to the north. that's going to cool us down for the weekend, heather. >> thank you, steve. time 7:40. it's going to take a couple of days to unpack all of the new supplies at the international space station. the crew members will spend the next two days moving a half ton of supplies from the spacex dragon capsule to the station. the unmanned dragon is the first commercial space vehicle to dock there at the space station. when the drag gone's cargo hold is empty, it will be packed with 1400 pounds of scientific experiments that need to return to earth. take a look at this. golf ball size hail caused problems for some drivers there in kansas. the hail was young enough to shatter windshields. central kansas in fact was under a severe thunderstorm watch until late yesterday. and at one point winds there were gusting at more than 50 miles per hour. rain, wind and possible flooding from tropical storm beryl are ruining some holiday plans in the southeast today.

in fact, military ceremonies and vacations all being cut short. reporter elizabeth fran is live in jacksonville, florida where the storm made landfall earlier this morning. elizabeth? >> reporter: hi, heather. you can see it's still fairly windy here in jacksonville beach. we're experiencing 29 mile per hour winds. last night between 12:00 and 2:00 a.m. we were reaching 70 miles per hour. that's not far from hurricane strength winds. we also had about an inch half of rain. but the rain will continue between the rest of the day today, tomorrow and even into wednesday. so folks here do have a long road ahead before the storm totally clears out. you can sigh just -- you can see just how powerful it still s. the surf is about 5 to 10- foot swells. yesterday we were seeing between 8 and 12-foot swells. these beaches are still closed. yes, we still have curiosity seekers, people who wanted to get to the beaches to get some good pictures. however, you can cannot go into the water. we spoke with the mayor earlier. he said lifeguards are not on

duty. they have people out and about, cleanup crews so there's no one to pull you out of the water. swim at your own risk. we spoke with a few tourists from syracuse, new york who said this is their absolutely first tropical storm. they were on the road driving to the hotel when the storm initially hit last night. take a listen. >> i know it's a holiday. i know this is a time for celebration and also to remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, who have served our country, but i also want to make sure it's about safety. >> reporter: that was mayor alvin brown. he spoke with us earlier. he said there are still two bridges closed because we know that people are going to be trying to leave. we know it's memorial day weekend. however, if you do not have to leave the jacksonville beach area and a lot of these coastal communities, they want you to stay inside your home. this is a drought stricken area. a lot of these trees were dry. they're now soaked. they can fall at any moment. he also did say the airport is officially open but many

airlines are still delaying and canceling flights. we anticipate a long way home for a lot of folks this memorial day weekend. >> thank you. time 7:46. a family from sacramento county recovering after their small plane crashed into the side of a mountain in idaho. three people were on board when it happened saturday night. they used a cell phone to call for help but bad weather out there kept a medical helicopter from rescuing them right away. ground rescue teams finally reached them after trudging through snow drifts 6 feet tall. they built a fire until a military helicopter came in to rescue them. >> oh, my god. oh, no. >> this is home video capturing a small plane crashing into the san diego bay. >> boaters there ended up rescuing the pilot and passenger who were on board before the plane sank just south of the coronado bridge saturday. the plane was carrying a banner

promoting the midway museum before it crashed. witnesses say the pilot swerved just to avoid the boaters. >> he can't be coming that low. there must be something wrong. obviously there was. the guy did a great job maneuvering the plane. >> the cause of this crash is still being investigated but the faa says the pilot did report having engine problems. nine people recovering after a row boat they were in crashed into a motor boat, then split in half. this happened yesterday morning in marina del ray. look at these pictures. the driver of the motor boat told police he didn't see the row boat in front of him and just slammed right into it. the nine people on the row boat were tossed into the water. they had to be rescued. >> i thought the rowing -- i gave them my life jacket and seat cushion for flotation and helped get some of them out of the water till help arrived. >> one person was taken to the hospital but was later

released. the eight others had minor injuries. the driver of the motor boat was cited for not following boating rules. japanese farmers are certainly hoping for good news from this year's rice crops. because of japan's nuclear disaster following that march 2011 tsunami, last year's rice contained too much radiation to sell. now farmers are trying again and every grain of rice will be checked for radiation. they have already treated the soil to prevent seedlings from getting contaminated. they are worried about the results but still have to try. strange story but at 7:49, if you're willing to pay the right price, fans of elvis presley can spend eternity in the tomb of elvis. the original crypt is being sold to the highest bidder. it's part of the music icon's auction. the tomb is inside the granite and marble mausoleum in tennessee. elvis was buried there in 1977.

then it was relocated to graceland two months later. the original crypt has remained empty ever since. the movie "men in black" went head to head with "the avengers" this weekend. which film came out on top? we'll take a look. >> how the winner of the indy 500 paid a special tribute to his late friend and last year's winner.

tomorrow the ticket sales report will come out. several people including police officers were injured during violent protests in that pal. -- in nepal. officers in riot gear clashed with protesters outside a split meeting in kathmandu. this is where political leaders were meeting in a last-minute attempt to agree on a new constitution. they were attempting to resolve differences over whether the states to be created by the new constitution should be determined on the basis of ethnicity. those south of the protesters who were opposed to that idea tried to push through a police line and were met with tear gas and lots of batons. central chile, first storms have left thousands of people there homeless. one woman died after a tree crushed the roof of a home where she was asleep. several days of heavy rain and strong winds have swept away roads, damaged homes there and also cut off power. time is now 7:53. crude oil prices, they just keep inching up this morning.

we just checked. crude oil prices are near $92 a barrel. that's up more than a dollar just since friday. it's still down from the $106 just a couple of weeks ago, and that has helped to lower gasoline prices across most of the nation except as you can imagine here on the west coast. here in the bay area, we're paying about 65 cents a gallon more than regular gas than the national average. san francisco has the highest prices with regular about $4.37 a gallon. san jose gasoline is averaging about $4.30. drivers in oakland you're paying about a penny less. the lowest prices in the north bay. costs about $4.27 a gallon which is down a bit from last week but it's still about 15 crernts higher -- 15 cents higher than in april. lots of people saving a little bit on gas money this morning as the commute seems to be light for the people out there. let's check in now with sal. >> some people do go to work but not many on this holiday or

not relatively not many. let's go outside and take a look at some of the roads here. northbound 101, northbound 85, 280 all looking very g. it's a very nice drive in the santa clara valley in case you do have to go somewhere. perhaps you're going somewhere early. traffic is moving along very nicely. out to the bay bridge toll plaza, the traffic here looks pretty good if you are driving into san francisco. so you don't have to worry about any of that stuff getting into the city. no major problems this morning on the upper deck. on the east shore freeway nearby, westbound and also eastbound 80 moving along very nicely. now let's go to steve. lots of low clouds and fog in place. some of that, though, kind of late arriving to the party yesterday. i mean, it was just widespread and slow to burn off. you see some of that low cloud deck there. still nice. i still think it will burn off sooner today. high pressure building in. the fog has kind of maxed itself out but still plenty there. and kathy from napa sent this. the fog rolling into the napa valley. it was clear and all of a sudden here came some fog.

that's what it's been doing lately. thank you, kathy from the napa valley. some of the fog coming n. not all areas are socked in but some areas. 40s and 50s on the temps. they haven't gone anywhere just by the mere fact we have too much in the way of low clouds. they'll continue for another day. does look like high pressure will give us a break as we head towards wednesday and thursday. still cool, breezy. 50s, 60s. a few mid-70s. starting to work our way back up on the temps. it will continue into tuesday. bigger jump on wednesday and thursday but another cooldown as we head through the upcoming weekend. >> did you catch the indianapolis 500? >> i did not. >> i'll let you know. the winner, a very familiar name name. dario franchitti took his third indy title. his teammate scott dixon finished second. he put on a pair of white sunglasses.

welcome back. i'm heather holmes in for tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. it's memorial day, may 28th. we have new information to tell but about an overnight police shooting that happened in vallejo. there was gunfire. it followed a chase. christien kafton has been on this story all morning. just talked to a woman who watched it from her front door.

>> reporter: yeah, in just the last 15 minutes or so, we've learned a lot more information but we've moved a lot more closer to the crime scene. some bullet holes are left here from 24 apparent officer- involved shooting. we've learned in the last half- hour sax minutes there were three suspects involved. we've learned one of the suspects died, one was in custody. one of them has escaped. we have video from a little earlier. in -- in that video, you can see one officer was injured. we hear that officer was injured when his k-9 unit apprehended one of those suspects and we're hearing that that suspect was injured by the dog and the other was, too. we also have video of the white lexus coup involved in this accident. -- lexus coupe involved in this

accident. the vehicles had to stop at this comedy success and then the vehicles -- cul-de-sac and then the occupants got out. we're hearing one suspect escaped. one was injured. our next move is to go to the vallejo police department to find out more information about this officer-involved shooting. we'll continue to follow this and find you some new video that we have moments after that incident. we'll bring that video to you in about 45 minutes. back to you. happening right now, president obama is due to lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknowns in arlington national cemetery. it's an annual tradition that we always talk about. the tomb of the unknowns is a

monument dedicated to troops not being identified. it used to be called the of the sole -- soldier. it is guarded 24 hours a day and, of court, the changing of the guard of the tomb of the unknowns. coming up for you at 8:15, we'll bring you a live report from arlington cemetery. 8:02, in a couple of hours san francisco will honor fallen members of the u.s. military with a very special tribute, allie rasmus is live at the presidio national ceremony to tell us more about the ceremony and what's being planned today. >> reporter: good morning, dave. we're at the national ceremony at the presidio. you can see the preparations are underway for today's events. the 50 flags of the 50 states of the united states, are lined

up here. in the last 15 minutes we've seen people come and place the flowers wreaths at the foot of our display. there are 1200 chairs set up here. organizers except this to fill up quickly. things get started at 10:30 this morning. that's when an army will lead to the national cemetery from the presidio, up the hill. at 11:00, there will be a league - -- a wreath-laying cemetery. dignitaries, including mayor ed lee, will speak at that ceremony. now, this has been going on for 24 years. this is video from last year's event. this comes just a day after large crowds gathered here to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the golden gate bridge.

city's vie violent -- to the city's violent street gangs. a 16-year-old boy died there at the scene. a 23-year-old man was wounded but he's expected to survive. homicide detectives still searching for the gunman. this fatal shooting was san jose's 16th homicide of the year. the newest member of the marin county board of supervisors apparently spent the most out of a dissaryary -- discretionary month. katy sears ranked up $26,000. and the others -- >> now, no other county board in the bay area has such a tax- payer funded account. marin county supervisors say this fund helps them help out

we're still on schedule and we're roughly 75% complete on that seismic giant. the seismic joint is the main focus of the work over the weekend. we're rereplacing the exist -- we replacing the existing joint with a new expanded joint. we've been doing different operations throughout the weekend towards that completion. we're 75% complete. we've had the base plates of this joint have -- have been put in and have been set in concrete. so that's a major part of the operation that's been successful and complete and behind us. next stop we're installing the upper plates. these are the plates that slide over for the movement we want to give to the deck.

next to those upper deck plateses is this transflex rubber that allows the deck to move. so everything is going well. next up, this afternoon and tonight we're continuing to install the deck plates, we are finishing on the elastomeric. that holds everything in place and lets the movement happen without affecting the concrete conconcrete deck -- concrete. >> the big question that commuters have -- >> you've been listening live a -- listening live right here on "mornings on 2" as they update the work.

know, open my -- to kind of, you know, open my eyes to different things. the father and sister of missing teenager sierra lamar was also at the vigil. sierra lamar said michelle le's been a big support. >> she's been there every single day, every single search. i've personally become very good friends with her. >> sierra lamar's family are still clinging to hope that she will be found alive. police believe she's dead and the suspect has been charged and is in jail. a wildfire that's been burning for four days in san diego county expected to be fully contained today. the banner fire is burning near the town of julian in steep,

rocky terrain. the fire is now about 90% contained. more than 900 firefighters have been working to put it out. no buildings are in the path of the fire and there are no evacuation orders. that's the good news. the cause is under investigation. the official start of fire season begins today for much of the bay area. the santa clara unit is declaring fire season beginning. per knits will be suspended -- permits will be suspended and firefighters are encouraging everyone to clear the brush from their home. 8:21. this is the weekend to celebrate the birthday of the golden gate bridge. you are about to meet a woman who was there 75 years ago on opening day. also, our meteorologist, of steve paulson, will tell us if we will see some sunshine this memorial day. good morning.

75 years ago today, the first cars traveled over the golden gate bridge, one day after it -- after it opened to pedestrians. the cars passed through driving from marin to san francisco for

ventilation. certainly, this was a frightening moment for the two families who woke up to the smell of smoke in their homes and the sight of flames. >> i woke up to gunshot noises. so i'm thinking there's something going on outside. i was looking out my window. the backyard is where it's happening. it's all orange. i'm getting scared. everybody is running out of the house. >> reporter: 15-year-old jaylen murray and his family carriried out some of their music-melting equipment and their father had

a studio, a music-making studio here in the house, than was heavily damaged. there was one fremont firefighter injured. he was up venting the attic place when the roof gave underway. >> he was strength the roof and the roof collapsed -- he was venting the roof and the roof collapsed. he's back on scene again working today. >> reporter: the firefighter was checked out and was up and walking around later in the morning. investigators are trying to figure out what sparked this destructive fire that damaged both of these homes. these families cannot live in their homes. right now and are looking for a place to stay for the time being. alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. two oakland police officers, they suffered minor injuries in a suspected drunk driving crash recally this

morning. it happened around 1:00 a.m. at fifth and martin luther king. police say a drunk driver slammed into the police car. the driver also suffered minor injuries. he will face dui charges once released from the hospital. in san jose, police are investigating the death of a pedestrian at a very busy intersection. it happened around 10:00 last night at alum rock and jackson avenues. investigators say a driver struck and killed a 62-year-old man while he was crossing the street. the driver is now cop rating with police. officials say alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in that accident. two sonoma county teenagers are in jail accused of a stabbing attack. it happened at a petaluma shopping center yesterday afternoon. police arrested the two teenaged boys saying they stabbed another boy outside of

eventually making it to an apartment compolitics on wilson avenue. police say three suspects got out of the car. the driver and two passengers. they say the driver reached into his hoody and pulled out a dark object. the police thought it was a gun and he shot at him. one suspect was hurt by the k-9 as was the k-9 police officer handler. the officer-involved, we're hearing, was a seven-year police veteran. we've learned that this whole incident happened at an attempt to stop at a dui enforcement. the officer was shot and killed at one officer. one suspect was in custody. one suspect was still on the loose. we will continue to monitor developments and bring you
